Today, I want to show you guys Quora. Quora is a question-and-answer website where questions are asked, answered, and edited by Internet users, either factually, or in the form of opinions. If you are familiar with Yahoo! Answers, then you’ll already have a head start, because it’s a very similar platform.
In a nutshell. A user on the platform will ask a question, and then tag that question within Topics, so that they can be answered by the community. People following the topic will get new questions in their home feed and can answer the ones in which they have some expertise.
Some of the questions on this platform are opinion-based. I’ve seen examples like “Who is your favorite current NBA player?”, “What is the best horror movie of 2020?”, or business-related questions like “What is the best customer support platform?” Those types of questions really get exploited by affiliates, because it’s a perfect time to leave a biased response, get some clicks, and hopefully get some sales.
For this lesson, we’ll be exploiting this as well, but we’ll try to mask our attempts at getting web traffic by better providing value, and answering more “factual-based” questions with high-value content answers. We’ll be subscribing to topics related to our business niche, find questions that we can answer, and if we can’t answer them ourselves, usually a 20 minute Google research session is enough to get the answer. Answer those questions thoughtfully, carefully, and conscientiously, then leave our website, or affiliate link, in strategic places within the answer.
According to the Quora TOS, and based on my own personal experience, if it looks like you’re selling a product, or blatantly leaving an affiliate link, they WILL remove your answer. I’ve had many, well-thought-out answers, removed for violating these terms, and even tried to fight it with a dispute but to no avail. I’ve wasted hours upon hours writing and crafting, answers that were removed so hopefully, we can avoid the same fate for you.
I’ve found that if you directly hyperlink natural-sounding words, or phrases, within your answers, they will remain untouched. If you try to force your links in or add a selling line at the end of your answers, they will be removed. I’ll talk more about this later, and give some examples when we get to answering some of the questions.
So, how effective can this traffic strategy be? Well, let me give you some numbers based on personal experience. For a test account that I made a few months ago called TIKI ANSWERS, I spent a full day answering as many questions as I could on the keto diet. Now, I’m not an expert on Keto, and frankly, I know nothing about it except that it’s a diet of mostly fats, and low carbs so that your body eventually goes into a state of ketosis.
I also know that people use it mostly to lose weight and to feel less sluggish, but that’s it. I am, however, really good at using Google, and knowing how to find, and relay, reputable sources. This is all you need to know how to do if you’re not a natural expert in the field. And, let’s be honest, how many people answering these types of questions really are? I’d say if you’re not a Ph.D. or a dietitian, you probably aren’t a TRUE expert anyways.
After a full day of answering questions, maybe around 5-6 hours of work, I answered 18 questions but 8 of them were removed, leaving 10 permanently on the website to get views. Over the next few days, those 10 answers gave me 296 unique views, and then another 19 views a few months later. Making the total, across all of my answers, count up to 315 views.
If you know my YouTube channel “IN THE SYMPOSIUM”, I always like to compare traffic numbers to “how much it would’ve cost to get these eyes on my product if I used paid traffic.” Comparing this way, we can get a rough dollar-amount estimate for our efforts, because organic traffic, as you’ll see, is a lot like paid traffic.
Most who come organically will not resonate with your content or product and then leave. But some will stay, and become a fan. And a few more from that will actually become paying customers.
In paid advertising, you target an audience. Though sometimes it’s more of a blanket ad across many audiences…
